CARDIOLOGY

Cardiology is the medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and abnormalities involving the heart and blood vessels.

• Electrocardiogram: Electrocardiogram is the record or display of a person's heartbeat produced by electrocardiography-the process of recording the electrical activity of the heart over a period of time using electrodes placed on the skin.
• Echocardiography: The echocardiography test is also called diagnostic cardiac ultrasound. An echo uses sound waves to create pictures of your heart's chambers, valves, walls and the blood vessels (aorta, arteries, veins) attached to your heart. A probe called a transducer is passed over your chest. The probe produces sound waves that bounce off your heart and “echo” back to the probe. These waves are changed into pictures viewed on a video monitor.
• Color Doppler:
• Stress Test (TMT): A treadmill exercise stress test is used to determine the effects of exercise on the heart. Exercise allows doctors to detect abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) and diagnose the presence or absence of coronary artery disease.
• Holter Monitoring: A Holter monitor is a battery-operated portable device that measures and records your heart's activity (ECG) continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer depending on the type of monitoring used. The device is the size of a small camera. It has wires with electrodes that attach to your skin.

**The cardiology department is fully equipped with 6 channel auto analyzer holter machine, 6 channel computerized ECG and 3 channel portable ECG, BPL Stress Test (TMT) machine. Advanced Echocardiography and Cardiac blood investigation completes the department.
